The Mexican government fully assists Vietnam's effort to participate in the World Trade Organization, said Mexico's Sub-Secretary of External Relations Lourdes Aranda during her talks with the Vietnamese prime minister's special envoy, Deputy Foreign Minister Vu Dzung.
The two diplomats held talks in Mexico on June 26 to discuss prospects of bilateral relations and exchange views on international issues.
Aranda said her government would promote bilateral negotiations in Geneva for Vietnam's early full membership to the WTO. Mexico, the host country of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in 2002, is ready to share experiences with Vietnam and help the country organize the 2006 APEC summit in Hanoi, she said.
She and the visitor also agreed to continue their coordination and mutual support at international forums, and to increase two-way trade, which stands at US$187 million.
Vietnam must conclude its bilateral negotiations with 27 partners to join the WTO but it has so far only done the task with one third of them. In a bid to hold the WTO membership later this year, the country is striving to complete the negotiations before September.
