Isuzu Targets to Sell 4,000 Cars in Vietnam This Year

Isuzu Vietnam has set a goal to sell 4,000 cars on the Vietnamese market in 2005, up from the year-earlier period of 2,963 units.

The Japanese-led carmaker sold 979 cars in the country in the first five months of this year, up 35 per cent on-year.

Isuzu Vietnam has been one of the fastest-developing carmakers in Vietnam over the last three years.

Isuzu Vietnam, set up in 1995, reported to sell 52 cars in 1997, 148 cars 1998, 196 cars in 1999 and 1,878 units in 2003.

Mr. Daikesu Yamada, deputy general director of sales for Isuzu Vietnam, said his company’s environmentally friendly and fuel-saving vehicles have made a breakthrough in sales.

The firm annually organizes fuel-saving contests for drivers to win customers’ hearts. In 2004, the most economical Isuzu SUV consumed 2.1 liters of fuel to complete a 100-km journey but in 2005 it needed only 0.95 liters for the same distance.

Isuzu Vietnam is a joint venture between Isuzu Motors Ltd and Itochu Corp of Japan and Samco and Govimex of Vietnam.
