The Foreign Ministry of Vietnam on August 18 made public the white book entitled “Achievements in Protecting and Promoting Human Rights in Vietnam".

This is the first book on human rights made public in Vietnam "to help the world public better understand the Vietnamese tradition in protecting and promoting human rights and the current human rights implementation in the country".

The preface of the book says the State of Vietnam has not only affirmed its stand to respect and protect human rights, but "has also done its utmost to ensure the realisation of human rights through the building and constant improvement of the legal system and the undertaking of concrete measures aimed at promoting economic, social and cultural development so that every citizen can enjoy a better life both materially and spiritually in an equal, democratic and civilised society."

The book includes four chapters. The first three chapters introduce Vietnam's viewpoints and policies on human rights, its achievements in the protection and promotion of human rights and international cooperation in the protection and promotion of human rights; and the last chapter touches upon a number of false allegations against Vietnam in the area of human rights.
