Malaysia Airlines on October 19 announced "Flights of Leisure" for passengers departing from Vietnam to enjoy special discounts on accommodation and other services at a Malaysian resort.
Sabarudin Ismail, area manager of Malaysia Airlines Vietnam, told reporters in Ho Chi Minh City that the promotion was for Vietnamese and expatriates on any of the airline's 21 weekly flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Kuala Lumpur.
However, the promotion is not applicable to workers travelling to Malaysia.
"All of our eligible passengers travelling from Vietnam between now and January 15 next year will get vouchers for a special hotel room rate of US$38 per night and discounts at other outlets at A'Famosa Resort," Ismail said.
The normal room tariff at the resort in Malacca is US$83 per night and the accommodation voucher is valid until the end of January next year.
Ismail said the other benefits for the voucher holders included a 20 per cent discount on admission to the Water World and Animal World Safari, a 20 per cent discount on admission to Microlight Flying Park, and a 10 per cent food and beverage discount at A'Famosa Resort.
The 520-hectare resort comprises of hotels, condotels, villas with private swimming pools, a golf course, cowboy town and equestrian club. There will also be the A'Famosa carnival featuring an animal parade, cultural dances, a street party and fireworks display.
Ismail said Malaysia Airlines decided to co-operate with A'Famosa Resort for the flights of leisure after the carrier received positive feedback from Vietnamese tour operators that more Vietnamese are travelling to the resort for their holidays.
The airline will charge US$200 for a return ticket of one-month validity between Ho Chi Minh City and Kuala Lumpur until November 30 and US$265 after that day, and US$400 on a two-way trip from Hanoi to the city for return travel within two weeks.
The Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board in Ho Chi Minh City estimated 30,000 Vietnamese visited Malaysia in the first seven months of this year.
Meanwhile, a total of 56,338 Malaysians arrived to visit Vietnam in the first nine months of the year, up 51.1 per cent on-year, according to Vietnam’s General Statistics Office.
