Of the Ho Chi Minh City industrial structure, the food and drink sector takes up quite a large proportion. Thanks to appropriate investments in more advanced technologies, the sector can turn out foods and drinks of higher quality, hygiene and safety standards. Many foods and drinks have become key products of Ho Chi Minh City. Before the “Food and Drink Trade Fair 2005”, VIB Forum had several interviews with food and drink enterprises.
Trademark and product label need more concerns
Mr. Nguyen Dang Hien, general director of Tan Quang Minh Manufacture & Trading Co., Ltd (BIDRICO)
With more than a decade on the market, the Bidrico trademark of Tan Quang Minh Manufacture & Trading Co., Ltd is quite familiar with Vietnamese people and has a strong foothold on the domestic drinks market. Bidrico drinks comprise of soda and non-soda drinks available in 110 ml bottles, 330 ml cans, and 1.25-litre and 0.5 litre bottles, Red Tiger tonic waters, fruit juices, Yobi yoghurts and others. To improve its production capacity and sharpen its competitive edge, Tan Quang Minh has invested large sums of capital in installing new high-tech production lines to produce favourite high quality products such as drinks processed from edible bird’s nest and Yobi yoghurts stored in Tetra Pak paper boxes. With the slogan “Prestige, quality and price,” Bidrico products have won various top titles, such as Vietnamese High Quality Product Award, Product for the Health of the People Title and Top Ten Vietnamese Goods Certificate.
In my opinion, processed food products are not only suitable for the domestic market with over 80 million people but also the regional and worldwide markets. However, in order to gradually expand the market, Vietnamese enterprises need to pay more attention to the registration for trademarks and labels, domestically and internationally, to better integrate into the world economy.

Counterfeits harm the company trademark
Mr. HOANG CAO TRI, general director of ACECOOK.
Acecook has witnessed significant business development in recent years. In 2004, the company’s total revenues were 30 times higher than those in 1995 and up 40 per cent more than 2003. The domestic market is expanding. The company also exports and advertises its products in Singapore, Cambodia, Malaysia, Australia, the United States, Czech Republic, Germany, Bulgaria, Russia, Poland, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Slovakia among others. In 2002, the company opened a representative office in Cambodia and consolidate its trademark position in Cambodia, Australia and the United States. In 2004, the export revenues were equal to 10 per cent of domestic sales turnover.
The “VINA ACECOOK” trademark has become renowned and familiar to Vietnamese customers. Typical VINA ACECOOK products include Lau Thai Noodle, Kim Chi Noodle, Hoanh Thanh Noodle, Hao Hao Noodle, De Nhat Noodle, Tao Quan, 24 H and Nho Mai Mai. Products of Acecook Vietnam have been voted the “Vietnamese High Quality Goods.” The company has a nationwide distribution network with over 700 sales agents, which send products of the company to even remote areas. In 2005, the company has continued to expand in both domestic and foreign markets.
However, Acecook as well as other enterprises are short of export market information. In particular, counterfeits have, to a certain extent, harmed the trademark of the company.
