Vietnam, China Reach Solid Plan to Plant Border Landmarks
Vietnam and China arrived at a concrete roadmap to completely set up a border landmark in 2006-2008 after the 14th conference of their joint border committee in Beijing, according to yesterday’s communiqué of Vietnamese Foreign Ministry.
During the seven-day meeting from December 18, representatives from the two nations also focused on measures to implement such a task, they pledged to erect border posts under regulations reached by the two governments earlier.
The two sides committed to try their utmost to complete demarcation and handle all remaining issues by the end of 2008 at the latest.
Also, they agreed to hold the 15th working session in Vietnam in next February.
Vietnam shares 1,281 km of borderline with China, the two countries have debated the issue for thousands years.
In 2005, the two neighboring communist parties pledged to comprehensively cooperate by exchanging delegations of all important agencies, including defense, police, inspection commission, the most important of which was the tour by Chinese General Secretary-cum-President Hu Jintao last month.
