Vietnam-Poland Trade Ties: Many Products See High Export Turnover
Poland sees high economic growth this year, Polish trade counselor Zbigniew Pawlik said at the recent briefing in Melia Hotel in Hanoi. Its gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 2.1 per cent in the quarter 1, 2.8 per cent in quarter 2, 3.7 per cent in quarter 3 and nearly 4 per cent in quarter 4. According to the Polish Monetary Policy Committee, the country’s economic growth is estimated to reach 3.5 per cent this year and 4.3-4.5 per cent in 2006.
In this condition, two-way trade between Poland and Vietnam has been developed strongly.
In the first ten months this year, trade turnover reached US$197.72 million, of which exports from Poland to Vietnam rose 62.9 per cent to US$45.18 million while imports went up by 7.7 per cent to US$152.54 million.
Export and import products have become more diversified. Thanks to credit assistance policy, material products, machines, and equipments for shipbuilding industry have topped the products exported to Vietnam in recent years. Powdered milk products rank second, accounting for 29.5 per cent of total export turnover. Exports of wood and cardboard recorded the highest growth with an increase of 10 times over the last year.
Of the Vietnamese exports to Poland, agricultural products witnessed the highest proportion, making up 32.17 per cent of total export value, followed by footwear with 27.26 per cent. Exports of traditional products remained stable meanwhile garment tended to fall down.
Vietnam also exported new products to Poland with increasing volume, such alive animals, animal-related products, machineries, mechanic and electric equipments, spare-parts, ships and transports means. The presence of hi-tech products in exports indicates a positive signal for Vietnam economy because these products require much investment in production as well as generate higher profits.
