On 25, December 2005, Saigon Beer, Alcohol and Beverage Corporation (SABECO) held the groundbreaking ceremony of Saigon-Cu Chi brewery based in Cu Chi northwest Industrial Zone, HCM City.
In the first phase, Cu Chi brewery will have a capacity of 100 million litres per year (the total capacity projected is 200 million litres per year). This is the most advanced technological brewery in Vietnam with the total investment of VND 1.904 billion. It will have been finished and brought into operation by June 2007. This project is part of SABECO’s capacity development and investment program to become Vietnam’s leading brewery. Addressing the ceremony, the Prime Minister Phan Van Khai appreciated efforts to develop Saigon Beer into the leading brand in Vietnam. It is such a valuable brand that many big foreign corporations have asked the Government of Vietnam to buy SABECo’s shares.
In addition, Khai called attention to environment management issue. It is necessary to bring the brewery a green environment, develop a modern wastewater treatment system and thoroughly solve the resettlement problems of current land users.
