Vietnam will not expand its robusta coffee cultivation area, according to an instruction made by the Deputy PM Nguyen Tan Dung regarding coffee production of the Vietnam Coffee Corporation (Vinacafe) next year and towards 2010.

Dung asked the Vinacafe to pay proper attention to intensively cultivate coffee trees and only expand arabica plantation area in certain localities which have suitable climate and soil

The deputy also requested the corporation to encourage coffee growers to change their harvesting habits; individuals and companies to invest in building drying ground and preservation stores; and processors to apply advanced coffee production technologies.

According to a blueprint recently approved by the PM, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will closely examine coffee production and preservation in cooperation with other relevant bodies.
