Vietnam Airlines to Sell Electronic Tickets in 2008
Despite facing many difficulties in 2005, due to a high increase in prices of oil and fiercer competition with other international carriers, exploiting the Vietnamese market, Vietnam Airlines gained an increase of 10.9 in revenues, transporting six million passengers.
To create most favourable conditions for passengers Vietnam Airlines decided to invest in electronic ticketing services, due to be launched in 2008. According to an official from Vietnam Airlines, an electronic commerce team has recently been established, beginning the carrier’s electronic ticketing project. Accordingly, electronic tickets will be sold from January 1, 2008. The time for the service launch is six months later than requested by the International Air Transportation Association (IATA).
Vietnam Airlines is selecting professional international bidders to implement the project. Instead of completing many procedures to get tickets, customers can get their electronic tickets via agents. The use of electronic tickets instead of paper tickets will help save between US$5 and 8, depending on the route.
