National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines sets target to obtain a growth of between 14-16 per cent in 2006, said Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hien, General Director of Vietnam Airlines, at the welcome ceremony of this year’s 6,000,000th passenger who traveled on the flight VN544 from Germany’s Frankfurt to Hanoi landed at Noi Bai International Airport on December 28.

The lucky passenger is a German national, Mr. Rainer Hoffmann, managing director of Rewe Touristik Destination Service AG. At the welcome ceremony, he was very happy to have this opportunity and sent sincere thanks to Vietnam Airlines as well as the hospitality of Vietnam people.

According to Mr. Hien, General Director of Vietnam Airlines, despite difficulties in 2005 such as high fuel prices, high rental fees of airplanes, and fierce competition between international aviation firms, the corporation has recorded a 11.7 per cent growth in benefit over the previous year, and transported 6,000,000 passengers, up 18 per cent, including 3,200,000 domestic passengers and 2,800,000 international ones.
To gain the targeted growth, the most important thing for Vietnam Airlines at present is whether it can hire more airplanes in 2006, Mr. Hien concerned. In 2006, the corporation will pay special attention to the domestic market to meet the sharp increase in travel demand, open air routes to all airports with enough operation conditions, gradually socialise aviation activities, he said. For international markets, apart from strengthening the quality of services, Vietnam Airlines will apply flexible price strategies subject to seasons on international air routes, Mr. Hien revealed.
