Vietnam Airlines to Receive IOSA Certificate Early 2006
National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines is expected to receive an internationally recognized safety certificate early next year, which should clear the way for more code-share agreements with other airlines.
The International Aviation Transport Association (IATA) plans to hand out its Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) certificate, following an inspection by its quality service team in October.
Vietnam Airlines general director, Luong The Phuc, said this would be the ninth consecutive year the airline had maintained high safety standards for all of its services, making it one of the safest air carriers in the region.
Mr. Phuc said the certificate would make it easier to sign code-sharing agreements with major international carriers, as well as joining air alliances and better integrating into the world’s aviation market.
The carrier ran 50,000 domestic and international flights this year without any technical hitches, an increase of 5,000 flights over 2004, he said.
Mr. Phuc said the company in October asked the IATA’s Aviation Quality Service to conduct a thorough inspection of Vietnam Airlines’ operational management and control systems.
The inspection team conducted checks on 700 different safety standards, and all 47 technical errors discovered were later fixed, he said.
