Gas Price May Fall in March

Gas prices in Vietnam may fall in March due to a decrease in gas demand in several regions in the world, Mr. Hoang Anh, director of Petrolimex Gas Branch in Ho Chi Minh City.

Anh said Europe and China will need less gas thanks to warming climate, and this will possibly make contract prices for gas in March fall.

Gas prices in Vietnam still depend on the world trend because 55 per cent of gas demand in the Southeast nation is satisfied by imports, he added. The remainder is made up by the country’s unique Dinh Co Plant in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province.

Anh said, at present, local gas traders normally rely on regional prices to set retail prices in the domestic market because they lack a storage system.

Currently, a canister of a 12-kg gas sold by Petrolimex Gas costs VND208,500 and Gia Dinh Gas VND190,000 and a cylinder of 12.5-kg gas provided by Elf Gas Saigon costs VND210,000.
