VietShip 2006 is also a show for local and international shipyards, shipping lines, designers, classification societies and suppliers to showcase their latest products and services, exchange technologies and plan for future business development, they said.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Pham Thanh Binh, general director of Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corp. (Vinashin), said the exhibition will create various opportunities for the Vietnamese shipbuilding industry and supportive industries to advertise products and seek business opportunities
The exhibition, which opens from February 21 to 24 in Hanoi, was co-hosted by Vinashin and C.I.S Vietnam Advertising & Exhibition Co.
The event is expected to bring in contracts with an estimated value of US$400 million, a Vinashin official said. The 2nd VietShip 2004 generated 15 contracts worth US$430 million, including a US$322.5 million contract between Vinashin and Britain’s Graig Investments Co. to build fifteen 53,000-DWT freighters.
As the world’s 11th largest shipbuilder, Vietnam expects to raise locally sourced parts content in their products to 60 per cent by 2010 from the current 30 per cent and build ships capable of carrying as much as 300,000 tons.
Vinashin, the largest shipbuilder in Vietnam, has plans to invest US$3 billion to develop its shipyards nationwide to realize the country’s target. The State-backed corporation has received a US$750 million loan from the Government to carry out its projects.
