SCG and Its Sustainability Milestones at CSI 2024:  Success Driven by a Unified Strategy from the Group to Its Member Companies

At the Corporate Sustainability Index 2024 program (CSI 2024) in Hanoi, 30 November 2024, SCG in Vietnam once again solidified its pioneering position in sustainable development with the outstanding achievements of the group and its member companies.


Binh Minh Plastics, Vina Kraft, and member companies of the Prime Group have been consistently recognized as Sustainable Businesses in Vietnam, demonstrating the success of the ESG 4 Plus strategy.

 This year, SCG's awards increased compared to the previous year, with five member companies of Prime Group, including Prime Dai Loc Joint Stock Company, Prime Dai Viet Joint Stock Company, Prime Yen Binh Joint Stock Company, Prime Tien Phong Joint Stock Company, and Prime Pho Yen Joint Stock Company, along with Binh Minh Plastics Joint Stock and Company Vietnam Kraft Paper Co., Ltd. (Vina Kraft), all being recognized. Notably, Prime Pho Yen Joint Stock Company proudly earned a place in the Top 10 Sustainable Businesses in Vietnam in 2024 and Prime Dai Viet Joint Stock Company is recognized as a Top 5 business pioneering in circular economy implementation and GHG reduction in 2024, with a reduction of up to 30% compared to 2020, through waste heat recovery system and replacing coal with biomass. Built on the foundation of the ESG 4 Plus strategy and the circular economy mindset, SCG and its member companies once again demonstrate their steadfast commitment to continuous innovation aimed at sustainable development.

CSI 2024 is implemented under the direction of the Government to recognize and honor businesses that excel in sustainable production and business practices across comprehensive aspects: economic efficiency, corporate governance, social responsibility, and environmental stewardship. As one of the enterprises meeting all these criteria, SCG and its member companies have long adopted the ESG 4 Plus strategy. This strategy encompasses four key approaches: Set Net Zero, Go Green, Reduce Inequality, Embrace Collaboration. Furthermore, fairness and transparency are consistently applied throughout all activities, ensuring inclusivity and effectiveness in implementation.

Based on these principles, SCG's member companies are oriented to act as robust "pillars," collectively building a sustainable business ecosystem. In the building materials sector, Prime Group, a member of SCG, made a strong impression with five subsidiaries being honored at CSI 2024 awards. Notably, among them, Prime Pho Yen Joint Stock Company achieved a breakthrough by being named in the Top 10 Sustainable Businesses in Vietnam and and Prime Dai Viet Joint Stock Company is recognized as a Top 5 business pioneering in circular economy implementation and GHG reduction in 2024, showcasing its comprehensive development strategy and outstanding sustainability initiatives. Committed to the Net Zero 2050 target, Prime Group has implemented numerous production innovations, including replacing diesel forklifts with electric ones, utilizing solar energy, and transitioning from coal to biomass fuels. These efforts have significantly reduced greenhouse gas emissions, improved energy efficiency, and enhanced the working environment.

Mentioning about Binh Minh Plastics Joint Stock Company, the company has accelerated its digital transformation to support green transition efforts by researching and deploying robotic arms to automate the production of plastic pipe components. In Vietnam, Binh Minh Plastics Joint Stock Company is also a pioneer in achieving the WRAS (Water Regulations Advisory Scheme) certification from the UK. Its plastic pipes and fittings have been proven free of harmful metals and are entirely safe for transporting drinking water. This achievement represents not only technological advancement but also the company’ strong commitment to public health.

This company also organized the project "Loving water for the future" implemented from 2023. By sponsoring high quality products aimed at providing and improving clean quality water for the community, the company and distributors have carried out many practical activities together. Specifically, as of June 2024, Binh Minh Plastics has supported the provinces of Vinh Long, Soc Trang, Ca Mau and Phu Yen by providing a total of 19,200m of PVC-U pipes and 9,700m of HDPE pipes, serving 1,257 households.

With a progressive spirit and strong sense of responsibility, Vina Kraft  - a leading packaging manufacturer in Vietnam - has affirmed its position by being honored for four consecutive years in the Top 100 Sustainable Businesses in Vietnam. The company has implemented numerous initiatives to conserve resources during production operations. By adopting the 4R model (Redesign - Reduce - Reuse - Recycle), Vina Kraft has nearly maximized recycling efficiency, utilizing primarily waste paper as raw material. The company optimized its drying chamber ventilation system and implemented vacuum booster technology, reducing electricity consumption by 43%. Additionally, Vina Kraft installed a lubrication system for Uhle boxes and built a rainwater collection system, achieving a 10% reduction in freshwater usage compared to 2021. To raise community awareness about environmental protection, Vina Kraft annually organizes the “Exchange Waste for Gifts” program, yielding positive outcomes. Vina Kraft’s continuous efforts in innovation and resource conservation have not only optimized production processes but also fostered sustainable relationships with ethical partners.

The success of SCG and its member companies at CSI 2024 reaffirms that when every member of a collective acts as a "pillar of strength," sustainability is no longer just a goal but becomes the foundation for a prosperous and enduring future.
