In 2025, the Federal Republic of Germany and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam celebrate the 50th anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic relations (September 23, 1975 – September 23, 2025).

To officially launch the anniversary year, the German Ambassador, Ms. Helga Margarete Barth, invited Vietnamese and international media representatives to a press conference in the Goethe Institut on February 14, 2025, to provide an overview of the planned activities in the course of the anniversary year.
The following elements were highlighted during the press conference: Launch of the official anniversary website: www.50vietduc.de; Gala-concerts “Berlin im Licht” in Hanoi (February 21st), HCMC (February 28th), featuring the internationally recognized soprano Katharine Mehrling; Career-Truck from North to South. Besides, German Festival at the Hoan Kiem lake from September 19th to 21st. German Career Truck: Career and Educational Paths to Germany
The following cities/provinces are currently planned to be visited in phases from April to November 2025 (see map below): Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Hue, Da Nang, Khánh Hòa, Nha Trang, Ninh Thuan, Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Hai Phong, Hai Duong Province, Thai Nguyen, Can Tho, Long An, An Giang.
The Career Truck will offer comprehensive information and advice at central locations during multi-day stops (2-4 days). Interactive activities and German food will complement the program. The truck's kick-off is planned for April 25, 2025, with the Vietnamese government in front of the Goethe-Institute.
The information and experience program will vary depending on the location and local partners. Key elements include: Events at educational institutions, education fairs, alumni meetings; Information sessions on migration opportunities to Germany; Seminars (e.g., on safe and regular migration pathways; Nationwide Germany quiz (grand prize: trip to Germany).
A highlight will be the stop at the Germany Festival (in planning) in September at Hoan Kiem Lake, where 50 years of cooperation will be celebrated and made tangible.
German Festival Hanoi: Celebrating Shared Successes!
As one of the highlights of the 50th anniversary of the official diplomatic relations between Germany and Vietnam, the German Embassy is planning the German Festival at Hoan Kiem Lake from 19th till 21st September 2025. The focus will be on the development cooperation between the two countries. Other German organizations, such as the Goethe Institut, will also have the opportunity to present their work over the past five decades together with their Vietnamese partners.
The goal is to showcase and celebrate the achievements made together in the form of a public festival with a colorful program. In a pavilion German-Vietnamese development cooperation will be presented in a multimedia format. Hands-on products will include, for example, an app for determining the origin of wood, sustainably produced coffee, renewable energy technologies, or bio-shrimp from the Mekong Delta.
Additionally, a supporting program with various elements is planned, including: Musical performances, panel discussions, and lectures on a stage at Hoan Kiem Lake; Stalls from German organizations to present their work; An open-air exhibition with interactive elements about the history of German-Vietnamese development cooperation; The final round of the nationwide Germany Quiz (grand prize is a trip to Germany).
Interactive activities for young people and culinary offerings will complement the program.
The German Career Truck will also be a part of the Germany Festival to inform about career and education pathways to Germany (see above).
The festival will begin with a high-ranking opening ceremony with the Vietnamese government, the city of Hanoi, the Hoan Kiem district, and distinguished guests at Hoan Kiem Lake.
The target audience includes Vietnamese guests, representatives of other embassies, as well as international and German organizations. At the same time, we also aim to reach people who happen to pass by (strollers, tourists) and may want to learn more about German-Vietnamese cooperation on the spot.
