Vietnam will start 11th multilateral round talk on its bid to join World Trade Organization (WTO) late this month, said the Trade Ministry yesterday.

The ministry revealed that top issues of the 11th round relate to international treaties and state subsidy policies, the most vital discussion in relation to Vietnam’s admission to the WTO.

The discussion would take place from March 27 or 28 in Geneva, but Vietnamese negotiators are slated to leave Vietnam on March 24, it said.

This could be the final multilateral negotiations for Vietnam to enter WTO, barring any unexpected issues, the ministry optimistically said.

In previous multilateral negotiations, Vietnam has made good progress, particularly in its commitment to implement key WTO regulations at the time of its entry.

As for the US, the two governments are in negotiations to prepare for the final round of bilateral talks, likely to take place in Washington or Geneva.

Last week, five high-ranking lawmakers toured the US to lobbying for granting Permanent Normal Trade Relation of the US congress.

Besides the key partner the US, Vietnam has to conclude WTO’s talk with three other minor ones, namely Mexico, Honduras and Republic of Dominica.
