Asia Saigon Food Ingredients Joint Stock Company (AFI) is known as a pioneering and leading producer of non-dairy creamers and food ingredients in Vietnam. To deliver premium products, AFI prioritizes green and sustainable development while upholding food safety as its highest commitment. To better understand the strategic vision and values created by AFI, our reporter has an interview with Ms. Ly Lac Bich Ngoc, Deputy General Director of AFI.

Ms. Ly Lac Bich Ngoc, Deputy General Director of AFI

In 2018, AFI was honored to be included in the Green Book by the Binh Duong Provincial People’s Committee. How has the company continuously focused on applying green and sustainable development criteria in the food sector?

AFI has made a significant impact on the food industry with a series of remarkable achievements. With an innovative strategy and strong commitment, AFI has not only led the market in product quality but also pioneered environmental impact mitigation and public health protection. For example, the company has applied environmentally friendly production technology, used sustainable raw materials and built energy optimization solutions. At the same time, the firm has constantly invested in new product research and development, adopted international food safety standards and responded to green consumption trends of modern consumers.

Furthermore, the company always uses clean energy from CNG gas for production. Therefore, emissions from boilers and incinerators do not pollute the environment. At the same time, the wastewater treatment system is operated according to the regulatory process and the treated water discharged in industrial parks meets the mandatory Class B standards. Solid waste also is treated in accordance with the waste control process of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

AFI is committed to creating a professional, friendly working environment

What policies does the company have to attract highly qualified employees?

The company fosters a stable and engaged workforce through its philosophy of collective growth - “help ourselves, help others, and help society.”

We always build annual training plans according to job requirements and aspirations so that employees can develop professionally. We apply welfare regimes, health care programs and movements to make employees feel assured at work

AFI is proud to have a team of young, enthusiastic and responsible employees. AFI is committed to creating a professional, friendly working environment and taking care of the spiritual life of employees towards a sustainable and prosperous future.

To improve customer values and actively contribute to food development in Vietnam, what key tasks will AFI continue to focus on?

AFI will uphold customer support criteria in developing new product solutions, increasing product values and reducing costs. In particular, food safety is always a prerequisite to work with customers in the food industry. We will also gradually propose initiatives toward using sustainable materials, minimizing plastic waste, and extending product and packaging recycling. The company reuses metal pallets, wooden pallets and plastic pallets and recycles them when they cannot be reused anymore. PE plastic packaging is recycled rather than disposed of in waste areas.

AFI prioritizes green and sustainable development while upholding food safety as its top priority

What steps can the local government take to support AFI's sustainable growth?

Binh Duong province has continually supported businesses from the initial stage to sustainable development. Besides, the province has invested in building a modern infrastructure system, forming concentrated industrial parks and adopting many active support policies. These efforts not only create an enabling climate for businesses but also strongly attract domestic and foreign investment capital, also from AFI.

Nonetheless, more workers have tended to return to their hometowns in recent years, making it hard for businesses in Binh Duong to recruit workers, especially highly skilled ones. Regarding this issue, we hope that the province will have worker support policies to attract and keep immigrant workers and talents to stay with the locality and businesses.

Last but not least, in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, we also hope that digitalization in provincial agencies will be deployed quickly and synchronously. This will not only help businesses improve business management but also optimize costs, thereby creating an important groundwork for further slashing product costs and sharpening competitiveness in the market.

Thank you very much!
