The 6th ASEAN Conference on 5G, held in Ninh Binh on October 27-29, 2025, as part of Vietnam International Digital Week 2025, reaffirmed Vietnam’s leading role in promoting digital transformation and developing a sustainable 5G and AI ecosystem.
Digital infrastructure - foundation for hi-tech supporting industries
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui The Duy emphasized that “5G and artificial intelligence (AI) are not only the foundation of digital transformation but also key drivers of high-tech supporting industries, promoting sustainable, inclusive, and equitable development across ASEAN.”
According to him, 5G and AI are two strategic technological pillars of the digital era that play a decisive role in shaping new industrial infrastructure. 5G enables ultra-fast connectivity, minimal latency, and real-time data transmission, paving the way for smart applications in manufacturing, logistics, robotics, and energy management. Meanwhile, AI supports data analysis, optimization, and decision-making, helping industries achieve leaner and more flexible production processes.
The integration of 5G and AI is the key for Vietnam’s supporting industries to transition from traditional manufacturing to smart, automated, and technology-intensive production. This approach will allow domestic enterprises to boost productivity, ensure quality control, and participate more deeply in global value chains.
“5G and AI not only drive digital transformation at the national level but also directly empower foundational industries where innovation is closely linked to production capacity,” he added.
Strengthening cooperation, building a regional tech ecosystem
Deputy Minister Bui The Duy stressed that the conference theme, “5G and AI: Advancing Sustainable, Inclusive, and Equitable Digital Transformation Together,” reflects ASEAN’s shared vision that technological progress must go hand in hand with social responsibility and inclusiveness.
Regional cooperation among ASEAN members, along with participation from international partners and leading technology corporations such as Qualcomm, Ericsson, Nokia, Huawei, Viettel, VNPT, and Mobifone, is helping build a dynamic and innovative 5G-AI ecosystem. This ecosystem will enable countries to share standards, policies, and practical application models.
The event also provides an opportunity for Vietnam to strengthen its role as a regional technology cooperation hub, integrating initiatives in supporting industries, innovation, and high-tech development into the broader ASEAN Digital Community framework.
Innovation for sustainable and inclusive growth
According to Deputy Minister Bui The Duy, 5G and AI are no longer future technologies but current driving forces that are creating new value chains in manufacturing, education, healthcare, energy, and the environment. For Vietnam, integrating these technologies into its high-tech supporting industry strategy will foster sustainable development, enhance technological self-reliance, and improve national competitiveness.
He affirmed that supporting industries can only thrive on a foundation of innovation and modern digital infrastructure. 5G and AI are the essential tools to make this a reality.
He also affirmed the Ministry of Science and Technology’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation and promoting the development of a dynamic, innovative, and sustainable ASEAN Digital Community, where technology benefits people and creates real social value.
He expressed confidence that this year’s ASEAN 5G Conference would mark a new milestone in cooperation, innovation, and the growth of the digital economy. “From the foundation of 5G and AI, we can together build a more connected, creative, and prosperous ASEAN,” Deputy Minister Bui The Duy concluded.
