Recently, Mastercard announced the launch of the Carbon Calculator in Vietnam, with VPBank becoming the first bank in the market to introduce this solution to its Mastercard credit card cardholders. As part of Mastercard’s core sustainability commitment, this solution helps customers estimate the carbon emissions associated with their daily card purchases, enabling more mindful financial decisions.

As sustainability becomes a growing priority in Vietnam, consumers are seeking accessible ways to make more environmentally conscious choices in their everyday lives. According to PwC, 96% of respondents in Vietnam expressed concern about climate change, while 69% said they are willing to pay more for environmentally friendly products. These figures highlight a significant shift in consumer expectations towards responsible consumption, reinforcing the need for businesses to embed sustainability into their products, services and long-term strategies.
Powered by Doconomy’s Åland Index, the Carbon Calculator enables VPBank cardholders to understand the estimated carbon footprint of their spending. Integrated into VPBank NEO, the the solution translates transaction data into easy-to-understand carbon footprint metrics, allowing individuals to identify opportunities to reduce their environmental impact and gradually adopt more sustainability-focused habits.
The launch reflects a shared vision between Mastercard and VPBank to use technology to create value beyond financial transactions. Together, the two companies are showing how digital banking can support more informed financial decisions while also contributing to broader environmental awareness in Vietnam.
