Vietnam Sends over 16,900 Workers aboard in First Quarter

Vietnam estimated to take over 16,900 laborers to foreign countries in the first quarter of this year, fulfilling 22.5 per cent of the whole year's target.
 
Among them, male workers accounted for 70.7 per cent.
 
During the period, the market receiving the most Vietnamese workers was Malaysia with more than 7,200. The runner-ups were South Korea with 4,000, Taiwan with 2,400, Laos with 680, and Japan with 494.
 
According to the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA), the ministry has submitted the Law on sending workers aboard under contracts to the government for approval. It is also building circular letters, giving instruction on guarantee for laborers aboard, and intermediary fees for labor export. The move aimed to protect benefits of laborers and further manage operation of intermediary companies in the field.
 
In 2005, Vietnam sent nearly 70,500 laborers to 18 foreign countries and territories worldwide, surpassing the set target of 70,000 for the whole year and fetched the country US$1.7 billion.
 
The communist country targets to take 75,000 laborers to foreign countries and territories this year. Currently, some 400,000 Vietnamese laborers are working in 40 countries and territories.
