Vietnam, RoK Boost Aviation Cooperation
The Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV) and its RoK counterpart in Seoul on April 14 signed an agreement on the liberalization of passenger and cargo transport, state media reports.
Under the agreement, Vietnam and the RoK will double the number of flights on the Ho Chi Minh City-Seoul route, from the previous eight flights per week to 16, to meet the growing demand for transportation between the two countries.
The two sides will also abolish the present 300-ton per week cargo transport quota and will be able to use each others' airports to conduct three flights per week to third countries.
By the end of 2008 there would be no restrictions on passenger services between the two countries.
This is the RoK’s second agreement on the liberalization of passenger and cargo transport signed with foreign countries after the US in 1998.
It is reported that around 300,000 RoK visitors have come to Vietnam annually for the past several years.
Last year, Vietnam Airlines catered to 180,000 RoK passengers, an increase of 30 per cent on-year.
In the first quarter of this year, RoK arrivals in Vietnam surged by 60 per cent over the corresponding period last year.
