Cho Lon Export and Import Co. (Cholimex), was set up in April 15, 1981 at 47-49 Chau Van Liem Street, District 5, Ho Chi Minh City. Since its initial days, the company has focused on purchasing farm produce, seafood and aquatic products to export to Taiwan and Hong Kong while importing materials for domestic industries like milk, seasoning powders and instant noodles.

With initial investment capital of VND5 million and dozens of staff, Cholimex now has five factories (garment, aquatic product, electronic, construction and aquatic product trading), three centres (breeding shrimp, commercial and real estate), two industrial zones (Vinh Loc and Ben Luc – Long An Province), and holds shares into joint stock companies (pharmacy and Viet So). The company has more than 1,300 employees. In 2005, based on proposals from the Ho Chi Minh City’s People’s Committee, the Prime Minister agreed to the transformation of Cholimex into a holding company. At present, the company is equitizing several units.

After 25 years, the Cholimex trademark has reached a new high, principally due to solid efforts from the staff and the company leadership and supports from various localities. Cholimex products are voted Vietnamese high quality goods over 10 consecutive years. Knowing more challenges await the company when Vietnam enters the WTO, Cholimex needs measures to secure stable development in both the domestic and international market.
