Commodity Prices Surging Sharply
The prices of commodities in Vietnam have been rising sharply since petrol prices went up two weeks ago.
Construction materials saw the highest increases of between 10 per cent and 15 per cent. The Vietnam Cement Corporation said its affiliates will increase the price of cement by VND15,000-20,000 per ton. The steel price has already risen by VND4,000 per kg to VND8,100.
Prices of food, foodstuffs, fruits and vegetables climbed up by around 5 per cent and seafood by 10 per cent.
The prices of processed food products also increased rapidly due to increases of 10-27 per cent in transport costs and material prices.
Some taxi enterprises raised their fares by some 7 per cent.
The price is forecast to continue rising.
Many rubber and plastic enterprises and representatives of supermarket and retail sales systems in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City affirm that commodity prices will continue to increase in the coming time.
The transport enterprises have asked for permission to readjust their fares while the aviation sector is considering an additional petrol charge.
The Prime Minister has asked ministries, branches and major State-owned enterprises to take synchronous measures to restrict the rising trend and stabilize the market.
The PM also required enterprises to reduce production and circulation costs by reorganizing production and renewing technology so as to raise their competitiveness and better cope with fluctuating prices in the world market.
