Vietnam to Consume 20.1Mln Tons of Petroleum in 2010
Vietnam will consume over 20.1 million tons of petroleum products in 2010, up 77.9 per cent over 2005, estimated the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
Of the sum, the southeastern region will use 10.83 million tons, accounting for 54 per cent of the country’s total demand [the economic hub of Ho Chi Minh alone will consume up to 6.14 million tons in the year]
At present, the sixth largest crude oil producer in Asia is heavily reliant on petroleum product imports as it has no oil refining facilities.
It is estimated that the country will consume around 14 million tons of refined oil products this year, up 24 per cent against 2005. Of the figure, 80 per cent will come from imports.
Vietnam's petroleum imports are controlled by state-run firms, with Petrolimex enjoying the bulk of between 60-65 per cent. Other importers include Sagionpetro, Petec, Vinapco, Petechim, PDC, Military Petrol and Oil Company, Dong Thap Oil, Petro Mekong and VITRANSCHART.
