Vietnam to Invest US$2.06Bln in Fisheries Development

Vietnam’s Fisheries Sector will pour around VND32.8 trillion (US$2.06 billion) into implementing its master plan for fishery development by 2010.
 
According to the Ministry of Fisheries, of the sum, around VND18.62 trillion will be used for seafood cultivation, VND9.3 trillion for seafood exploitation, and the remainder for seafood processing.
 
The ministry is mapping out plans for fisheries infrastructure development in the Mekong Delta and south central coastal regions, under which fishing ports, fishing wharves, fishing markets, and fishing grounds will also be built in the Tokin Gulf, the central region, and the south-eastern and west-eastern regions.
 
The ministry will put the Centre for Seafood and Aquaculture and centers for training and transferring seafood cultivation methods into operation soon to turn the fisheries sector into a strong sector in terms of export activities.
