Equipment Contract Signed for Cua Dat Hydropower Plant
On June 27, 2006 in Hanoi, Cua Dat Hydropower Joint Stock Co. (under Vinaconex) signed a US$18 million electric mechanical equipment supply contract with a contractor consortium of China National Heavy Machinery Corp. (CHMC) and DongFang Electrical Machinery Co. Ltd (DFEM).
Major equipment includes turbines and generators manufactured by DFEM, which is the largest and most reliable hydropower equipment producer in China and has supplied equipment for the world largest hydropower plant Sanxie and many other electricity plants in China. In addition, DFEM provides equipment for Ban Ve and Ba Ha hydroelectricity plants in Vietnam.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan, General Director of VINACONEX, apart from power generation, Cua Dat Hydropower Plant helps regulate water flows to reduce floods, protect the entire Chu River system, supplement water for the lowlands of the Ma River during the dry season, secure sufficient water for 86,862 ha of cultivated land and supply water for industrial parks and households. Besides, this project plays an important role in the socio-economic development strategy for remote areas.
The first turbine is scheduled for power generation by December 2008 and the second turbine will generate electricity by February 2009. Each year, the plant generates 417 million KWh.
