Japan Assists Vietnam in Building New Industrial Statistics System
The Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on July 3 signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to help the General Statistics Office (GSO) of Vietnam to build a new industrial statistics system.
Accordingly, a two-year project will be conducted from July 2006 with the aim of improving the reliability and accuracy of economic indicators in Vietnam through the utilization of a new industrial statistics system.
As planned, the Japanese Government will send experts to Vietnam to assist GSO carry out the project.
Meanwhile, the Department of Statistics and Research under the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will also share experience and professional skills with Vietnamese partners.
Notably, JICA will help GSO institutionalize monthly surveys on the main industrial products and industrial indicators, upgrade the statistics system, and enhance people’s and organizations’ awareness of the importance of industrial statistics.
Currently, GSO uses an estimation method to calculate economic indicators, including industrial statistics, which does not provide an accurate indication of the country’s economic statistics.
