The Eastern Asian Bank (EAB) next week plans to launch its made-in-Vietnam newest generation automated teller machine (ATM) system called autobanking card (ABC), enabling 24-hour ATMs to facilitate the opening of accounts, foreign currency exchange and deposits.

The ABC system is the first of its kind in Vietnam.

ABC machines can receive cash directly from clients and create accounts on the spot.

ABC machines also identify counterfeit money and unqualified currencies for circulation.

To meet the demands for the new system, EAB has purchased 420 ATMs from China’s largest ATM maker – RGR Banking Equipment Co., Limited.

Such a big procurement is a part of EAB’s strategic plan to become an industry leader next year.

By the start of this year, EAB also signed an agent contract for the US money transfer company MoneyGram whereby money sent through MoneyGram’s network of 84,000 offices in 170 countries can now be received at EAB.

Additionally, the bank is an agent for some 40 other global money transfer companies and has reported payments from these enterprises of nearly US$690 million last year.
