Ho Chi Minh City will hold the Vietnam’s 4th International Furniture and Handicrafts Exposition (HCMC Expo) 2006 on October 4-8, according to the Vice Minister of Trade Luong Van Tu at a recent press briefing in Hanoi.

The Expo 2006, held at the Ho Chi Minh International Exhibition and Convention Center (HIECC) in Tan Binh District, is expected to lure over 800 booths of businesses from cities and provinces nationwide as well as enterprises from ten foreign countries and territories.

The HCMC Expo2006 organizers said that the first three days of the five-day event are designed to bring potential business partners together to encourage new contracts. It is also seen as the biggest of its kind to demonstrate the overall picture of the Vietnamese woodwork industry and its unique products.

At the exhibition, the most modern wood processing machines and other kinds of sub-materials used in the timber processing industry will also be displayed.

The exposition, which is part of the 2006 national trade promotion campaign, has been selected as the official trade event of this year's Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum. A conference entitled, "National Trademark Opportunities and Experiences from the APEC Economies" will be held, with the participation of leading trademark experts from APEC economies and the Asian Furniture Design Alliance.

Other meetings will also be opened for those interested in trade issues, including opportunities and challenges faced by the domestic woodwork and handicraft industries as Vietnam's accession to the World Trade Organization is completed.
