Vietnam Has Much Tea for Exports
Vietnam has huge potentials to export tea, which will continue to be one of the country’s export staples, according to an article posted on August 6 on an Argentinean news network, El Mundo.
The country has already shipped abroad more than 15 kinds of tea to around 57 countries and territories worldwide. In the first six months of 2006, export revenues of tea hit US$55 million, an increase of 30.1 per cent over the same period last year.
In 2005, the country ranked seventh among world tea exporters with a total shipment of 80,000 tons. Vietnam is expected to ship 100,000 tons this year, earning US$110 million, in order to improve its position in the world rankings, the article said.
At present, the country has around 125,000 ha under tea cultivation which can produce an annual average of 577,000 tons of green tea leaves.
To raise the effectiveness of production, the Vietnam Tea Association has been working with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to restructure the tea sector.
From now until 2010, the sector will provide tea producers with new techniques for planting and zone off tea-growing areas.
The article ended telling the readers of the bright outlook for Vietnamese tea as an important cash crop for the national economy, along with rice, coffee, rubber, cocoa, cotton and pepper. (Vietnam & World Economy
