Vietnam-China Border Fair to Open in Yunnan

The Vietnam-China Border Fair 2006 is set to take place at Hekou-Yunnan-China Trading Center from November 8-17 under the annual trade fair rotatedly organized at border gates’ areas of the two countries.
 
The fair will have 600 pavilions with 250 indoor booths [including 100 from Vietnamese enterprises] and 310 outdoor ones.
 
Within the event, provincial discussion between Vietnam’s northern mountainous Lao Cai province and China’s southwestern Yunnan province, exchanges between economic and trade delegations will be held.
 
Bilateral trade between Vietnam and Yunnan province in the first half of this year posted US$198 million, up 14.8 per cent on-year.
 
Of sum, US$62 million came from border trade, said director of the Lao Cai Trade and Tourism Service, Nguyen Quang Duc.
 
In the six-month span, Vietnam reaped US$48 million from exports to Yunnan, an on-year staggering rise of 85 per cent, suffering a trade deficit of US$150 million.
 
Staple exports of Vietnam to Yunnan via border trade were ores, latex and rice, totaling US$45 million during the time. Meanwhile, its main imports were chemicals, fertilizers, coke, electricity and tobacco.
