Vina Capital Sets up IT Risk Investment Fund in Vietnam
The fund management company VinaCapital will establish the TechFund with an operational lifespan of 10 years in August. The fund will have a capital of US$50 million but is expandable to US$100 million to the maximum. Initially, TechFund has a capital of US$25 million. The fund is expected to offer its services by October 2006. This is a risk investment management fund with an attempt of helping new IT companies. VinaCapital is the second IT risk investment fund in Vietnam after IDG.
Under the plan, TechFund will prioritise internet, wireless network, software production, digital communication and IT infrastructure fields in Vietnam. It will invest in enterprises, including State-owned enterprises in the process of equitisation. In addition, the fund will also take part in international IT firms newly entering Vietnam.
VinaCapital wants to increase its asset value through its focus on investing and assisting IT firms operating in Vietnam, including listed firms, private firms and potential newcomers.
