The HCM City International Furniture & Handicraft Fair 2006, which will take place from October 4-8, 2008, has been chosen as the “Official trade event of APEC 2006,” the organizer has announced.
The fair, to be held at the HCM City International Exhibition and Convention Center at 446 Hoang Van Thu St, Tan Binh district, is also part of Vietnam’s national trade promotion program for 2006 and is an industry fair conducted annually under the instruction and support from the HCM City People’s Committee and the Ministry of Trade.
The 2006 is the fourth year that the annual expo has been organized in Ho Chi Minh City, said Pham Hoang Ha, director of the HCM City Service of Trade and head of the organizing board for Expo 2006, adding that in previous years, the expo attracted strong participation of local furniture and handicraft businesses and the number of both local and foreign visitors has been increasing.
According to the organizing board, Expo 2006 will feature 700 booths displaying interior and exterior furniture, handicraft, rattan and bamboo articles, ceramics, materials, equipment and machinery. Additionally, there will be a common pavilion to exhibit and introduce the achievements of 21 APEC members.
Expo 2006 will be arranged by product category to create the best conditions for businesses to display their products for visitors to view properly. The search of businesses, booth number and booth location will be guided on maps and computers installed throughout the expo.
Apart from displaying products, machinery, equipment, raw materials and accessories for the furniture and handicraft industries, Expo 2006 will have other activities like seminars which will provide information on activities and problems solving for furniture and handicraft businesses as well as export challenges facing the furniture industry after Vietnam’s accession to the WTO.
“We have a list of 1,500 furniture and handicraft businesses which will be provided online,” Hai said, promising that the organizing board will help non-participating businesses seek partners and information about the furniture and handicraft industries.
