Quotable Textile & Garment Exports to US Fetch US$1.5Bln
Vietnam has so far this year earned some US$1.5 billion from shipping quota-bound textile and garment products to the US, an on-year rise of 8 per cent, said the Ministry of Trade (MoT).
Almost all the hot categories have used over 75 per cent of their total quotas this year, especially male and female trousers made from synthetic fiber cloth have already exhausted roughly 90 per cent.
The ministry said such usage of quotas is positive as compared with the same period last year.
At present, the Vietnamese market share for garments and textiles in the US stands at only 3-4 per cent. Last year, the country's garment exports stateside fetched $2.6 billion and the figure is expected to rise 10 per cent this year.
Vietnam expects to earn $5.5 billion from garment and textile exports, mainly to the EU and the US in 2006, up nearly 14.6 per cent against 2005.
