Vietnam Posts US$536Mln Trade Surplus with UK in Jan-July
The fast-growing country of Vietnam obtained a big trade surplus worth US$536.1 million with the United Kingdom (UK) in the first seven months of this year thanks to its high export growth, said the European Trade Office.
Vietnam exported EUR476.25 million ($603.2 million) worth of goods during the period, up 12.4% on-year and 19% on-month.
Meanwhile, the country spent EUR53.02 million ($67.12 million) on imports, up 28.4% on-year, the office added.
Footwear, garments and textiles, woodwork products, machines and equipment are Vietnam’s key exports to the UK while it mainly imports pharmaceutical products, medical equipment, machines, leather, telecom and record equipment.
The UK now is one of largest European Union investors in Vietnam, with a total investment capital of $1.35 billion in 77 projects. Two-way trade turnover between the two countries exceeded $1.4 billion in 2005.
