Sumitomo-Mitsui Bank Cooperates with Amata Vietnam
On October 3, 2006, in Ho Chi Minh City, Chairman of Amata Vietnam industrial zone, Dr. Huynh Ngoc Phien and Director General of Sumitomo-Mitsui Bank (SMBC), Mr Isao Aramaki signed an agreement on trade relations to support Japanese investments in Vietnam and in Amata Vietnam IZ in particular.
It is reported that Amata Corporation PCL and SMBC have signed a similar agreement in April 2006 in Thailand. The agreement this time is aimed at promoting the existing relationship. In the past years, SMBC has supported Japanese companies in Vietnam in trade and finance activities with offices opened in HCMC in 1994 and in Hanoi in 2004 and HCMC branch in June 2006. US$800 million have been invested in Amata Vietnam industrial zone with 129 hectares of Phase 1 fully rented, Phase 2 with 140 hectares under construction and attracting investors.
So far over 90 enterprises have rented and started investing in the industrial zone, including 38 from Japan (40 per cent) such as Amanda Food, Bayer Vietnam, Fukuyama Gosei, Kao Consumer Goods, Sanko Mold, Wacoal Corporation, etc. Amata Vietnam IZ is regarded as the most efficient among 135 IZs and EPZs in Vietnam.
