The Trade Ministry has already given a nod to seven woodwork and forestry products promotion programs in 2007 submitted by the Vietnam Timber and Forestry Products.
The programs will receive around VND5 billion in aid from the State’s budget.
Of the sum, more than VND8.4 million will be supported in buying magazines to provide trade information on wood sector; VND37.8 million in organizing seminars in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Danang and Quy Nhon cities in April, July and October to improve competitiveness of local woodwork processing enterprises after Vietnam joins the WTO.
The sector will also use VND20.5 million from the budget for applying information technologies in woodworks trading from June to October.
Local enterprises, as scheduled, will attend a woodwork exhibition to be held in Chicago, US from June 10 to 25 with total support jumping to VND1 billion.
Especially, up to VND2.2 billion will be injected to holding activities to promote Vietnamese agro and forestry products from September 10 to 21 in Frankfurt, Germany.
Local enterprises will also attend a woodwork exhibition to be held in Shanghai, China during September 9-20 and another in Tokyo, Japan from November 19-30.
In 2006, Vietnamese woodwork processors and exporters have participated into more than four such programs.
They will attend the 18th International Exhibition of Future, Fittings and Upholstery (MEBEL 2006) to be held in Moscow, Russia from November 21 to 25 of 2006.
In the period from October 19 to 23, the fourth international exhibition on wood processing equipment and machinery was organized in Ho Chi Minh City’s Phu My Hung International Exhibition Centre showcasing typical products and technologies for the wood sector that is developing with frog-leaps.
The woodwork sector held Ho Chi Minh City International Furniture and Handicraft Fair and Exhibition 2006 (HCMC Expo 2006) on October 4-8 in which 200 contracts worth $18million were signed.
From September 20 to October 4 of 2006, the enterprises participated into a promotion program in Belgium aiming to increase woodwork export revenue from the country in particular and EU in general.
In the first ten months of this year, Vietnamese woodwork sector raked in more than $1.53 billion from woodwork exports, posting on year rise of 25.6 per cent on year. (
