CPI Grows 0.2 Per Cent in October
According to the recent release from the General Statistics Office (GSO), the consumer price index (CPI) only grew 0.2 per cent, lower than the earlier estimation of 0.3-0.4 per cent by the Board of Market Regulation under the Ministry of Trade. The target of keeping the CPI under 8 per cent is becoming realistic.
In October, the education expenditure increased 1.6 per cent on-month and reported the highest rise in the month, followed by foodstuffs with a 1.3 per cent growth household items and services with 0.9 per cent rise against September.
At the same time, the cut in the retail price of gasoline by VND500 a litre to VND10,500 and consecutive tariff cuts for post and telecom services made the travel group decrease 1.8 per cent compared with that in September, in which the latter group fell 0.1 per cent on month.
The drop of the global gold price to less than US$600 an ounce in October also lowered the domestic gold price by 3.1 per cent compared with a month earlier.
