Vietnam-Thailand Trade Surpasses US$3Bln in Jan-September
Two-way trade between Vietnam and Thailand was estimated at US$3.03 billion in the past nine months of this year, up 28 per cent on-year, said the Vietnam Trade Office in Thailand.
Though the office has not given the breakdown of the figure, it announced that Vietnam’s import and export values to the foreign country during the time rose 24 per cent and 12 per cent on-year, respectively.
Among 61 import items from Thailand, fossil fuel topped the list in terms of import value at $397.68 million, followed by plastic products, $272.85 million, machinery and electric equipment, $246.1 million, rubber products, $155.1 million, and iron and steels at $130.6 million.
Meanwhile, Vietnam sold 37 products to the country with value of over $1 million each. Machine-tools and mechanical equipment ranked first at $259.45 million, followed by crude oil and minerals, $216.6 million, electric equipment and machines, $59.8 million, and seafood at $20 million.
During his recent visit to Vietnam in late October this year, Thai military-installed Prime Minster Surayud Chulanont and his counterpart agreed to adopt effective measures to raise the bilateral trade to $5-6 billion in 2010 from $3.7 billion estimated for this year.
