Telcos Pledge Smooth Mobile Phone Service during APEC Summit 2006

Three leading mobile phone service providers in Vietnam, namely VinaPhone, MobiFone and Viettel Mobile, have confirmed to ensure network operating smoothness during the APEC Vietnam 2006 Week, which will take place in Hanoi on November 12-19.
 
The three telecom networks have finished upgrading switchboards, operating their stations at full capacity and employing mobile stations among other solutions.
 
According to VinaPhone, the need for mobile phone service will soar during the APEC Week along with the arrival of over 7,500 foreign guests, 1,000 foreign businessmen and more than 1,500 foreign correspondents.
 
Hence, VinaPhone has upgraded the network and issued more simcards to meet the expected 20 per cent growth in demand for mobile services during the APEC Week. 
 
At the National Convention Center, MobiFone has arranged mobile station cars and installed many more stations to ensure network clearance. 
 
Meanwhile, Viettel Mobile, the sole provider allowed to provide mobile service at the National Convention Center, has been reported to complete preparations for the event.
 
The military-run network will present 3,000 simcards to APEC delegates and have two stalls at the National Convention Centerto assist delegates. 
 
The Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) has also announced that it has finalized installing telecom systems at 12 hotels for APEC high-ranking officials, the National Convention Center and the APEC Press Centre.
 
Deputy Minister of Posts and Telecom Le Nam Thang confirmed that the information and communication systems for APEC have been ready.
