The 6th Vietnam International Plastic, Rubber, Packaging, Printing & Food Processing Industry Show, part of Linkage Vietnam 2006, began on November 16 at Phu My Hung Int’l Exhibition Center in Ho Chi Minh City with the participation of more than 200 companies from 11 countries and territories, with up to 400 booths.

On display are high-tech and state-of-the-art plastic, printing, packaging and food processing machinery and equipment from China, Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam among others.

Almost all the exhibitors have yet to open representative offices or post agents in Vietnam, so the show will be the chance for them to find partners to step into the local market, said the fair organizer.

“We want to promote business contacts between Vietnamese companies and international partners right at the exhibition,” said Pham Quynh Giang, deputy director of Vietnam Trade Fair & Advertising Co. (Vinexad) under the Ministry of Trade.

Vietnam’s plastics industry has grown by 25-30 per cent annually for the past 10 years. Giang says this growth rate is attractive to equipment suppliers in Asia and elsewhere.

Vinexad, Paper Communication Co. and Yorkers Trade and Marketing Service Co. of Hong Kong are co-organizing the expo, and it will wrap up on Sunday.
