Vietnam Launches 8,700-ton Cargo Ship Built for Japan
The Ben Kien Shipyard, an affiliate of the state-run Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group (Vinashin), yesterday November 28 launched an 8,700-ton cargo ship built for Japan’s Kenematsu Group in northern Haiphong city.
The ship is the second among four of its kind to be built under contract with Kenematsu.
The Kaiki, which is 111.7m long, 18.6m wide, 9.65m high and is powered by a 2,942kw Hanshin engine, was built under the supervision of a Japanese agency.
The ship, designed to specialize in transporting wood, is set to be transferred to the Japanese ship owner in the first quarter of 2007.
