Vietnam Imports 1.1 Bln KWh of Electricity from China
Since Vietnam and China began power trade more than two years ago, Vietnam has imported nearly 1.1 billion kWh of electricity as of the end of September this year, according to state media.
The country spent around US$44 million buying the power, a local newspaper reports.
According to Vice General Director of EVN Dau Duc Khoi, Vietnam will next year continue importing electricity from China to meet demand in the north of the country. He said Vietnam is estimated to need up to 1 billion kWh in 2007.
Vietnam is now buying electricity from China via 110kV lines to Lao Cai, Mong Cai and Ha Giang, and from next year will also purchase power via 220kV lines to Lao Cai and Ha Giang provinces.
EVN is set to achieve a total power output of 66.7 billion kWh in 2007, including purchased volume.
