Tra, Ba Sa Catfish Export Revenues Soar

The Ministry of Fisheries said the fishery export revenues in 2006 could reach US$3.2 billion. Tra and ba sa catfish had a record increase with an export volume of 250,000 tonnes of finished products valued US$661 million. In 2006, Vietnam caught nearly 800,000 tonnes of tra and ba sa catfish.

Vietnamese tra and ba sa catfish had been exported to 65 countries.

The EU was the largest importer of Vietnamese tra and ba sa catfish, accounting for 46 per cent, followed by Russia 11.2 per cent, ASEAN 8.7 per cent and the US 9.8 per cent. However, the export to the US rose 57.6 per cent in quantity and early 100 per cent in value in 2006.
