Vietnam-Japan Trade Posts US$10Bln in 2006

Bilateral Vietnam and Japan trade was forecast to reach nearly US$10 billion in 2006, up 21.8 per cent on-year, according to the Vietnam Trade Office in Japan.
 
Of the sum, Vietnam earned US$5.6 billion from exports to the foreign country, up 24.1 per cent on-year while the country imported US$4.3 billion worth of goods from Japan, up 18.9 per cent.
 
With these figures, Vietnam maintains a trade surplus with Japan with the value of US$1.3 billion.
 
Exports to Japan have kept rising in recent years, boosting the market share of Vietnamese products in the country to nearly 1 per cent, added the office.
 
So far, Vietnam has exported 25 products to Japan, with key items of crude oil, coal, plastic products, silks, rubber, coffee, electric wires, seafood, footwear, garments and textiles, woodwork products and handicrafts.
 
Japan is now Vietnam’s second biggest export market after the United States.
