Plastics Exports to Reach US$580Mln in 2007
The plastics industry has targeted total export value of US$580 million in 2007, up 21.3 per cent against 2006, said the Vietnam Plastics Association (VPA).
Made-in-Vietnam plastic products have penetrated many overseas markets including the US, the European Union and Japan.
Domestic businesses in the field are also aiming towards promising new markets like China, India, Russia, Eastern Europe and Africa.
The VPA’s secretary general Nguyen Dang Cuong said the abolishment of tariffs, as Vietnam becomes an official member of the World Trade Organization, will create greater opportunities for the plastics sector in export with a more attractive investment atmosphere.
The move will create favorable conditions for the sector to reach the target of US$1.3 billion from export by 2010, Cuong said.
Plastic ware production has become appealing to foreign investors, particularly Japanese companies.
Vietnam is now home to 800 plastic ware producers, of which 80 per cent operate in Ho Chi Minh City. Major products include wrapping, consumer products, construction products and hi-tech plastic products.
