Govt Urged to Raise Competitiveness in post-WTO Era, Trade Minister
The governments at all level should be “more competitive” with flexible policies in the post-WTO era for the country’s common development, ThanhNien Online cited Trade Minister Truong Dinh Tuyen on January 23.
This is absolutely a new issue in Vietnam, Tuyen said, “to be more competitive”, local and central governments need to boost management capacity, simplifying administrative procedures to lift headaches for investors and local people as well as tourists to improve its image.
To do that, it is essential to promulgate positive changes, particularly boosting local government management capacity, the trade official quoted Prof. John A. Quelch, vice rector of Harvard Trade University in the US on occasion of his visit to Vietnam when the country was hosting the Asia-Pacific Summit 2006.
Prof Quelch noted, to develop its economy, any country in the context of globalization should prioritize cultural values, which are said to create competitive advantages.
Tuyen also noted valuable lessons learned from Danang City. (Young People)
