A delegation of leading business representatives will pay the sixth visit to Vietnam since May 7 last year to seek investment opportunity, particularly in the agricultural and construction sectors.

The delegation from the Belgian province of East Flanders, which makes up 80 per cent of Belgium-Vietnam trade, will travel to Hanoi, Haiphong and Ho Chi Minh City and then may stop in Da Lat and Danang, said Deputy Provincial Executive of East Flanders Marc DeBuck at a press conference held in Ho Chi Minh City on January 29.

The two countries' fisheries collaboration, which began in 2005, would continue, DeBuck said, confirming Belgium’s continued scientific support for Vietnam.

Trade between Belgium and Vietnam has increased considerably in recent years, according to a press release by the Belgian-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce (Beluxcham) in Vietnam,

Belgium exports steel, dairy products and machinery to Vietnam, while importing Vietnamese leather articles, shoes, gemstones, clothes and furniture.

In early 2004, the Province of East Flanders and Beluxcham opened the School of Excellence project in Vietnam, where Vietnamese employed by Belgian companies receive practice-based training.

To date, 368 students have received middle and senior management certificates, and 952 workers have completed safety courses.
