The government of central Khanh Hoa Province has revealed a plan to build five seaports from now until 2010 to support its economy.

The new ports will enable the province to increase stevedoring and circulation of cargo in the province as well as in the whole central region, ensuring its sustainable economic growth, a high-ranking official said.

The five seaports include Van Phong International Container Transshipment Terminal, My Giang petroleum port (in Van Ninh District), Hon Khoi Port (Ninh Hoa District), Nha Trang Port (Nha Trang City) and Ba Ngoi Port (Cam Ranh town).

Ba Ngoi Port will be invested with VND300 billion from State coffers, to serve cargo to and from southern central Vietnam and southern Central Highlands.

Nha Trang Port will be developed by VND40 billion, mainly spent on upgrading the control center and passenger lounges, to better serve passenger ships and clean cargo freighters.

Hon Khoi Port will be developed into a service and logistics destination for watersports facilities and tourist liners, as well as a mooring site for local ships.

My Giang petroleum port will be invested with US$50 million from Vietnam National Petroleum Corp (Petrolimex).

Van Phong International Container Transshipment Terminal is estimated to cost US$600 million for construction. (VNA)
